Deuter has once again worked his magic on this album filled with peace and serenity. Interweaving piano and cello with flutes, bells, gongs, guitar, voice, tambura, santoor and nature sounds, this music is very relaxing. Each piece—from Uno to Dieci—takes you deeper into an enchanted world of color and texture and sound, delicately guided by the piano and cello.
“I am inspired by nature,” Deuter confesses, “and use my impressions much in the way Monet transformed his love and impressions of water lilies into his final masterpiece, ‘Les Nympheas.’” Atmospheres was created after his experience of this painting in Paris, the music conveying an impressionistic emptiness and lack of formal structure that allows the listener to simply Be. Among Deuter’s many great compositions, this one is a masterpiece.
