By my (informal) count, Sweet Awakenings is multi-instrumentalist Terry Oldfield’s 50th release! He has recorded in so many styles of music that he must be considered one of the most versatile artists in the New Age music genre. On Sweet Awakenings, he emphasizes his flutes, particularly his silver flute, but also bansuri and pan pipes, as well as guitar, piano, and keyboards. This is one of the loveliest collections of peaceful, calming music in a classic New Age vein that I’ve heard in a while. No matter which instruments he plays, Oldfield’s playing is consummate and soulful. This artist has plenty left in his musical tank, obviously.
