Whoever at New Earth Records came up with the idea for this album deserves a raise. Combining the tantric overtone talents of the world-renowned Gyuto Monks of Tibet with New Age musicians Kim Cunio and Heather Lee (who are joined by a few more artists) yields some amazingly powerful, deeply spiritual results, melding ancient mysticism with contemporary New Age. Instruments featured include many staples of world music spanning the globe— harmonium, tanpura, oud, santour, and didgeridoo—as well as piano, cello, violin and viola. Impossible to sum up in a short review, Beyond Karma will be best appreciated via direct, immersive listening to absorb its spiritual core.
